Day 6- 12 Days of Christmas 2019-Pinterest Inspired

               A Wandaful Thing 12 Days of Christmas 2019 – Day  6

Welcome to Day 6 of my 12 Days of Christmas 2019 Pinterest Inspired things to make. I have to admit that this item is NOT inspired by Pinterest but I am hoping that after I post it to on my Pinterest account it becomes an inspiration for others to copy or modify and make.

Day 6  – I did a hack to adorable little IKEA Vinterfest lanterns.

As soon as I saw them at IKEA ( a package of three was $7.99), I knew exactly what I wanted to do with them.

For another project back in the Spring, I had purchased SVG maps of the Canadian Maritime provinces to use with HTV vinyl for baby onsies and t-shirts.  I had to really reduce the size of the maps to try and fit them on the little lanterns, but I did and it worked. I was worried about how my Cricut maker was going to cut the small version of the maps from permanent vinyl, but it did a great job.

The one above is a cut out from an SVG of a map of Cape Breton Island and the heart represents where I am from. I kinda love it 🙂 Continue reading Day 6- 12 Days of Christmas 2019-Pinterest Inspired

Day 5- 12 Days of Christmas 2019-Pinterest Inspired

               A Wandaful Thing 12 Days of Christmas 2019 – Day 5

I’m so excited that my 12 Days of Christmas has begun. I usually try to stick to a theme each year, this year I am making 12 things that are Pinterest Inspired.

Day 5 is a wine bottle upcycled into Christmas decor.

A very dear friend of mine was kind enough to drink the wine that was in the bottle so I could have it to use for one of my 12 Days of Christmas 2019 Pinterest Inspired items. God bless her.

I found an SVG I liked and sized it to fit on the bottle. I used my Cricut Maker to cut out white permanent vinyl and adhered it to the bottle. I placed a set of battery operated lights inside to complete the look.

I like the way it turned out.

This was my inspiration which can be found here.

So what do you think, was my version a pass or a fail??

It’s been a great deal of fun preparing for this event, and I can’t wait to show you what Wandaful Things I’ll be up to next. :)

                  A WandafulThing 12 Days of Christmas 2019 – Day 1

Eek, I’m so excited that my 12 Days of Christmas has begun. I usually try to stick to a theme each year, this year I am going to be making 12 things that are Pinterest Inspired.

I am starting off with Christmas personalized books.

These are the books I made:

I found three matching books at Goodwill and painted all three of them with white acrylic paint (including the edges of the pages). I glued the books together and then cut red vinyl words using my Cricut Maker and adhered them to the spines of the books. I embellished with some jute twine and a floral pick that included red berries and pine cones.  I think these will be a nice addition to my Christmas decor. Bless You Jars

I’ve seen Bless You Jars at craft shows and on Pinterest and I’ve had them on my to do list for awhile. I finally got around to attempting to make them and they turned out great – so great I gave most of them away.

To make a Bless You jar – you will need a one quart mason jar the ring but not the lid, a small piece of felt, some vinyl letters, chalk paint, spray paint or any acrylic paint that will adhere to glass and metal, mod podge and some twine or raffia, if you decide to add a little embellishment.  I used my Cricut die cutting machine and designed the “Bless You” and scroll using images from my Cricut Design Space program.

For a few of the jars I painted them using chalk paint in various colors, and although not shown in the picture above I did paint the rings black. I would have preferred to spray paint them as it would have been quicker but the evening I decided to start the jars the weather wasn’t cooperating to allow me to spray paint them outside and of course I wanted to do them right away and not wait…lol apparently I have no patience. The black one pictured at the beginning I did spray paint  (in half the time it took me to hand paint the others ~sigh).

Each jar required three coats of paint and one coat of mod podge before adhering the vinyl letters.

I cut rounds of felt and cut an X in each piece in the middle before gluing to the inside of the metal ring. This enables the tissue to pull through one piece at a time. I was a little confused at first on how to fold the tissue to make it come out the top of the jar but after I did it once it clicked and was pretty easy to do for the rest of the jars. Here is a quick tutorial https://youtu.be/ZHgs0phpdqk On how to fold the tissue to fit in the jar, if you don’t figure it out on your own.

I kept the white one for myself and it just so happens it was my favorite one…lol

Which one is your favorite? What other colors do you think would make a wandaful bless you jar?

Bless you jars are A Wandaful Thing.

Upcycled Thrift Store Frame #2

Here are a few of the items I bought this weekend. The larger dark frame in the upper corner I paid $1.50 for.  I decided to upcycle this one first. As I transform the other items (if I do), I’ll do posts on those at a later date.

I also bought some Dixie Belle chalk mineral paint called sea glass, it’s the $15.00 purchase shown above. Here is a closer look at the color.

After I gave the frame a good wipe down, I painted the frame and the picture with one good thick coat of sea glass chalk mineral paint. I am so bad at taking pictures as I go.

I wet distressed the frame and had plans to use a reverse stencil but when I put the vinyl letters on I liked it so much I decided to leave it as it was. Sometimes plans change and sometimes that’s a good thing.

A quick coat of wax and a buff was next. After about an hour or so, it was ready to display and photograph. It will be on sale and on display at our local restaurant called The Vintage Kitchen along with some other vintage kitchen items.  You can check them out here: https://www.facebook.com/VintageKitchenLegal/

Upcycled Thrift Store Napkin Holder

I found this cute wooden heart-shaped napkin holder at my local thrift store last week. A dated wooden piece like this is usually finished in dark stained pine with no sealer. I should have brushed on a coat of Zinsser primer but I didn’t.

I decided to use Rustoleum Chalk Paint in linen white and thankfully one good coat was enough to cover it completely.

Next I decided to use my Cricut to cut out a design in permanent glossy red vinyl for each side.  Both of the files are from  Makers Gonna Learn  and if you haven’t heard of them, I strongly advise you go check out their website and YouTube Videos. I’ve learned so much from this group of wonderful people. I just recently took out a membership and this is my first project using their files (LOVE THEM).

Day 9 – 12 Days of Christmas 2018

Welcome to Day 9 of my 12 Days of Christmas 2018

At the end of August (wow that seems so long ago), Michaels had flip-flops on sale for 70% off so I bought a few pair and figured I’d wait until inspiration hit me to do something with them.

That inspiration came when I saw this video by Tanner Bell.  Using iron on vinyl to personalize flip-flops.

I decided to personalize a pair of flip-flops for my daughter for Christmas and since she lives in Texas, I thought cacti would be cute. Here are the two images I used from Cricut Design Space (#M877022C)(#M855825F)Since I am planning a trip to visit her soon, I decided I needed a pair too.  Once I had my designs printed I used my Cricut easy press to adhere the vinyl to the flip-flops.

So fast, so easy, so cute – and start to finish under 30 minutes.

Here are close up pictures of the designs I used.

Personalized flip-flops are A Wandaful Thing!

It’s been a great deal of fun preparing for this event, and I can’t wait to show you all the Wandaful Things I’ve been up to. :)
