You can even eat the dishes……
This is still one of my favourite go to recipes for valentine cookies, with an edible cookie display dish. I think that is a win-win.
Valentine Chocolate sugar cookies…who knew? There’s just something about a chocolate sugar cookie. Chocolate is the perfect flavor for Valentine’s Day and these adorable little heart cookies will make your valentine so happy. Let me tell you they are delicious, in this display you can even eat the dish, lol, keep reading to find out how I made it…
I wanted my display of Valentine Chocolate Sugar cookies to be extra “sweet”, pardon the pun, so I decided to make an edible candy cake plate. Trust me this is pretty easy and the best part was I had a bag of candy leftover from an impulse buy at Christmas 🙂
Unwrap the candy, line your springform pan with parchment paper, arrange candy and then put in a 350F oven for about 20-25 minutes – you will know it is ready when you see the candy expand and start to stick to each other. Take it out of the oven and let it cool completely in the pan. Once it is cool it will peel off the parchment very easily.
Now the cookies -you will need:
- 1 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 2 sticks butter- room temperature
- 1 egg
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup dutch process cocoa powder
- 1/2 milk chocolate Valentine M&M’s
My local market did not have any pinkish M&M’s so I went with what they had-they look a little different but taste the same.
-
In mixer- combine butter & sugar. Beat on medium speed until light & fluffy.
-
Turn the mixer to low & add egg & vanilla. Beat until just combined.
-
Slowly beat in flour & cocoa.
-
Transfer dough to large piece of parchment paper.
-
Place another piece on top & roll out to about 1/4 inch thick piece of cookie dough between the 2 sheets of parchment.
-
Place on cutting board & refrigerate at least 30 minutes.
-
Once dough is finished chilling- preheat oven to 350 degrees.
-
Remove top layer of parchment & use your cutters to cut your hearts.
-
Use a thin spatula to transfer cut out cookies to ungreased cookie sheet.
-
Place your M&M’s on your cookies & bake 10-13 minutes.
-
Allow to cool on baking sheet completely before transferring to airtight container.
-
Repeat rolling, cutting & baking until you have used all the dough.
-
Enjoy!

Love those dishes, still need to make one for the grandkids.
Thanks so much for participating and sharing at SSPS 296. See you again next week!
Glad you like the idea. Hope you get a chance to make one.
They look good enough to use as wall art, as well as eat!
I did not think of that…I suppose if I shellac the candy it would last forever and I could display it as art – thanks for the idea!!
I wish you were closer too as I will end up eating most of them myself 🙁
They look delicious. Wish I was closer to have a few. Plate a great idea for any time.
