Gourmet Cupcakes versus Rice Krispie Squares

Cupcakes Versus Rice Krispie Squares

I recently had the distinct pleasure of  being invited to attend a birthday celebration for a very special one year old girl.

I never go to an event like this empty handed and offered to do some baking. I got an enthusiastic reply that my baking would be greatly appreciated.  I decided to bake some gourmet chocolate and vanilla cupcakes and make a pan of Rice Krispie squares. When I advised what I was bringing I got a squeal of excitement over the Rice Krispie squares and I actually laughed out loud thinking to myself really?? You are more excited about a non-bake easy to make treat over a delicious “made from scratch” gourmet cupcake.

The picture above was the first batch of test cupcakes – pardon the crumbs, these were the only three that made it out alive  to the picture taking stage…my volunteer taste testers gave the thumbs up.

Spring has Sprung (for some of us…)

Spring Has Sprung Watercolor Printable

I don’t know about you but for the last couple of weeks I’ve been doing nothing but thinking about Spring.

Could it be that the weather has warmed up ever so slightly? Could it be that the snow is starting to melt?

Could it be that the time change has taken place? I think for me it is a combination of all three AND the fact that Easter is just around the corner. Continue reading Spring has Sprung (for some of us…)

5 DIY QUICK AND EASY APRONS

PicMonkey Collage3

When I think of the word apron, my mind immediately thinks about both of my grandmothers baking in their kitchens, always wearing their aprons.  I’m sure the incredible smells and delicious goodies that came out of those kitchens, inspired my love of cooking and baking and as long as I can remember, I’ve always worn an apron. I am also pretty messy when I cook, bake, craft or garden and without my apron, I am sure I would have ruined many an outfit!! Continue reading 5 DIY QUICK AND EASY APRONS

DIY Recycled Cat Litter Containers

I have this adorable cat Mylo, he doesn’t like having his picture taken but when I promise him a treat he sometimes cooperates. He received a few treats for this picture.

With indoor cat ownership comes the need to have a litter box, clean that litter box and of course buy cat litter for that litter box.  I buy mine at Costco in the 30+ pound  container size. Once those containers are empty, instead of tossing them in the garbage, why not turn them into a reusable storage container.

Today’s DIY is another one of those under 30 minute projects that when you are finished the item is actually quite useful…and have I ever mentioned how I hate to throw out anything that I think can be reused, recycled or repurposed. Continue reading DIY Recycled Cat Litter Containers

Valentine’s Day Tablescape from Plum Creek Place

Candy (even her name is sweeeeet..)from Plum Creek Place was the first blogger to answer the call of my Frugal Valentine Tablescape Challenge, which was to create a tablescape for $20.00 or under using thrift store, dollar store or already owned items.
Her tablescape(s) are truly amazing and oh so beautiful.
I am so jealous envious of all the fabulous “stuff” she has collected/thrifted over the years.  Candy was even so kind as to list prices for each item used.

More frugal living tips from A Wandaful Thing….

Ever since Mylo the kitty cat joined the family I’ve had to come up with ways to deal with cat hair.

Don’t throw away your used paint rollers – you can use them to pick up pet hair...they don’t even need to be washed, just dry.  If I use a cheap paint roller, when I am finished the job, I just throw it out without washing it – NOT ANYMORE!!!
