Michaels’ Boxing Day Sale Haul

As most people know I am not only a vintage hunter but a thrifty bargain hunter as well.  Since I am also an avid crafter, what better way to save, save, save then to hit Michaels’ during their boxing day sales.

I live in Canada so these prices are canadian prices.  I spent $114.60 today but am only showing you $100.00 of it as the other couple of items are for an upcoming birthday party and I’d hate to ruin the surprise…

Here is the break down on prices:    Plaid throws were $18.00 each after discount. The wide ribbon was $6.00 after discount and the two smaller plaid ribbons were $4.20 each after the 70% discount. Great prices for those gorgeous plaid throws.    I had a really hard time deciding which one I really wanted so I bought them both.

The Woodland Pine scented candles remind me of the smell of pine trees in the forest so at a whopping $2.10 after discount, they had to come home with me. The cute treat sacs come 18 per package and were also $2.10 per package. These I will put away to use in a 2020 craft show.  The Plaid gift bags were originally priced at $8.00 per package and the largest ones come 5 per package while the two smaller sizes have 6 per package. After the 70% discount they totaled $2.40 per package. That equals less than 50 cents per gift bag.   I may need to go back for more.          Continue reading Michaels’ Boxing Day Sale Haul

Day 12 – 12 Days of Christmas Pinterest Inspired

A Wandaful Thing 12 Days of Christmas – Day 12

Today brings me to the conclusion of my 12 Days of Christmas Pinterest Inspired posts.  I hope you have been following along to see all the interesting things I’ve created based on what has been inspiring me on Pinterest this holiday season.

Today I bring to you an easy to make Christmas garland made entirely of items purchased from the Dollar Tree. I enjoy making things that look great but are still relatively inexpensive to make.

I purchased a flashing Christmas bulb necklace, some burlap that was layered with white lace, some plaid ribbon, and white acrylic paint, all from the Dollar Tree.  I was fortunate the day I was making this to have a dear friend visiting and she soon found herself helping out in the craft room. We painted the bulbs with the white acrylic paint (three coats) and while that was drying we removed the lace from the burlap.  The burlap, the ribbon and the lace were all cut into 7 inch strips (approximately).  When the bulbs were dry and put back on the necklace we started to layer the burlap, the ribbon and the lace. It still seemed to be missing something so I added a few randomly placed pieces of jute twine.

It started off being hung on my craft room peg board, then it went on the tree (if I make about 5 more they would cover the tree), then it made it’s way above the Christmas tree and is now hanging off the blinds (first picture at the top of the post).

I found my inspiration for this here.

That concludes my 12 Days of Christmas Pinterest Inspired posts for this year (2019).  I’ve enjoyed them and I hope you have too.

So what do you think, was my version a pass or a fail??

Are you inspired now to go search Pinterest for fun, easy ideas to make?

Day 8- 12 Days of Christmas 2019-Pinterest Inspired

               A Wandaful Thing 12 Days of Christmas 2019 – Day 8

I’m so excited to share what I have been up to so far in my 12 Days of Christmas Pinterest Inspired projects. Today is Day 8 and I bring you another ornament. This one has a nautical theme.

Day 8

I found some clear glass ornaments at the thrift store and swirled white acrylic paint on the inside to make the ornament white.

I purchased an SVG file from thehungryjpeg.com you can find that here. I changed it up a bit and adjusted it to fit my ornament.

I used my Cricut Maker to cut out some navy  permanent vinyl and adhered it to the ornament. I found this wonderful contrasting ribbon at Walmart.

I think the ribbon was the perfect accent for the ornament. I had some blue striped twine in my craft stash and decided to use that to hang the ornament from the tree. I really like the way it turned out.

This was my inspiration which can be found here for sale at etsy.

So what do you think, was my version a pass or a fail?? In my books it’s a definite pass.

It’s been a great deal of fun preparing for this event, and I can’t wait to show you what Wandaful Things I’ll be up to next. :)

Day 7- 12 Days of Christmas 2019-Pinterest Inspired

               A Wandaful Thing 12 Days of Christmas 2019 – Day  7

Welcome to Day 7 of my 12 Days of Christmas 2019 -Pinterest Inspired. This year my theme was to make all 12 items from things that inspired me on Pinterest.

Today is Day 7 – a snow globe ornament made from Dollar Tree items. All of the items were bought at the Dollar Tree and the total cost was under $5.00

These are the items you will need for your snow globe ornament.

I glued the tiny bottle brush trees, small bench and lamp post to the inside of the cap of the ornament. I measured out some epsom salt and glitter and put them in the bell shape of the ornament. Then I screwed the cap on the ornament.  I added a strip of Nova Scotia tartan fabric to use as the ornament hanger.

This was my inspiration, you can find it here.

So what do you think, was this a pass or a fail??

Day 6- 12 Days of Christmas 2019-Pinterest Inspired

               A Wandaful Thing 12 Days of Christmas 2019 – Day  6

Welcome to Day 6 of my 12 Days of Christmas 2019 Pinterest Inspired things to make. I have to admit that this item is NOT inspired by Pinterest but I am hoping that after I post it to on my Pinterest account it becomes an inspiration for others to copy or modify and make.

Day 6  – I did a hack to adorable little IKEA Vinterfest lanterns.

As soon as I saw them at IKEA ( a package of three was $7.99), I knew exactly what I wanted to do with them.

For another project back in the Spring, I had purchased SVG maps of the Canadian Maritime provinces to use with HTV vinyl for baby onsies and t-shirts.  I had to really reduce the size of the maps to try and fit them on the little lanterns, but I did and it worked. I was worried about how my Cricut maker was going to cut the small version of the maps from permanent vinyl, but it did a great job.

The one above is a cut out from an SVG of a map of Cape Breton Island and the heart represents where I am from. I kinda love it 🙂 Continue reading Day 6- 12 Days of Christmas 2019-Pinterest Inspired
