Age Appropriate?? Crafts that is…

My dear friend and fellow blogger Amelia over at You Can Always Start Now  just published a post on twirling and pivoting and doing and enjoying crafts even if they are for kids.  She loves to explore all the possibilities.  Go over and read her post (linked above) to fully understand why I am sharing this with you. She always has the greatest ideas and today I found myself in the store that starts with $$ and ends with what rhymes with drama…and found the cutest little craft kit tucked in among the kids crafts. For a buck 25 how could I resist Continue reading Age Appropriate?? Crafts that is…

Day 11- A WandafulThing 12 Days of Christmas 2020

                  A WandafulThing 12 Days of Christmas 2020 – Day 11

Thank you for joining me for my 12 Days of Christmas 2020.

Well here we are almost at the end of the series. If you want to see what you missed, be sure to see the links at the end of this post.

This year I am going back to basics of why I started my blog and that was to inspire you to make, bake, create and decorate, all on a budget of course.  From now until the end of November, I will share some simple, easy and budget friendly ideas just in time for the holidays.

Day 11: DIY Vertical JOY Sign

Today, I’m showing you how to make this cute vertical Christmas JOY sign.  This sign is so simple but turned out so pretty. I love how the color of letters match the berries on the wreath.  Read on for the full tutorial.

Here’s what you need:

  • Wood for Sign (14″x 7″ I used pine)
  • Mini Wreath (I made mine with an extra piece of garland)
  • Acrylic Paint & Brush
  • Hot Glue Gun & Glue
  • Scraper
  • Vinyl
  • Transfer Tape
  • Weeding Tool
  • Electronic cutter (cricut explore, silhouette or other cutter)(If you don’t have a Cricut, Silhouette etc., you can use premade letters from a craft store)

What to do:

Paint your wood with whatever color you want your letters to be (I used white acrylic paint), I applied three coats with a sponge brush, allowing each one to dry inbetween coats.

  • Open the design software program for whatever vinyl cutter machine you have (I have a Cricut Maker).
  • Open a text box and type the letters J  Y – size letters to 3″wide x 3″high.
  • When everything is sized correctly, you can cut the design with your Cricut or Silhouette. I used Oracle 651 in a peach color as I had it leftover from another project.
  • Once it has finished cutting, weed away the excess vinyl.
  • Cut a piece of transfer tape a little bigger than the design and place it sticky side up on your work surface.  Then, place the vinyl on top of the transfer tape. Rub over the design with your scraper and trim off the excess transfer tape. Then, cut apart the letters.
  • Grab your vinyl letters and the mini wreath and place them on the sign.
  • Space everything out so it looks even. Remove the vinyl backing from one of the letters. Position it on the wood sign. Match the straight edges of the stencil with the straight edges of the sign. Repeat with the other letter.

  • Next paint two or three coats of red paint over the entire sign to cover the letters and all of the white paint.

  • Once the red paint is dry, carefully peel off the vinyl letters.

  • I used a semi-gloss spray varnish to seal the sign before adding the mini wreath with hot glue.

Your JOY vertical sign is now ready to display.

Day 2- A WandafulThing 12 Days of Christmas 2020

                  A WandafulThing 12 Days of Christmas 2020 – Day 2

Thank you for joining me for my 12 Days of Christmas 2020.

If you missed Day 1- there will be a link to at the end of this post.

I’m so excited that my 12 Days of Christmas has begun. I usually try to stick to a theme each year, but this year I am going back to the basics of why I started my blog and that was to inspire you to make, bake, create and decorate. Over the next four weeks I will share some simple, easy and budget friendly ideas just in time for the holidays.

Day 2: Painted glass jar votive holder

For these cute little jars you will need:

  • two clean clear jars (lids optional)
  • acrylic paint (I used red and green)
  • vinyl stickers – you can make your own if you have a Cricut die cutting machine or purchase them from the $$ store. It doesn’t matter what color they are as you will remove them after you paint the jars
  • apply the stickers to the front of the jars and then apply two or three coats of paint over the outside of the jar including the sticker. Let dry completely and then remove the stickers from the jar.
  • Apply a coat of mod podge over the jars and let this dry completely. If you decide to use the lids of the jars you can also apply a coat of mod podge on the top of the jar and cover with a sprinkling of epsom salt. Let dry completely and your votive holders will be ready to use.

Day 12 – 12 Days of Christmas Pinterest Inspired

A Wandaful Thing 12 Days of Christmas – Day 12

Today brings me to the conclusion of my 12 Days of Christmas Pinterest Inspired posts.  I hope you have been following along to see all the interesting things I’ve created based on what has been inspiring me on Pinterest this holiday season.

Today I bring to you an easy to make Christmas garland made entirely of items purchased from the Dollar Tree. I enjoy making things that look great but are still relatively inexpensive to make.

I purchased a flashing Christmas bulb necklace, some burlap that was layered with white lace, some plaid ribbon, and white acrylic paint, all from the Dollar Tree.  I was fortunate the day I was making this to have a dear friend visiting and she soon found herself helping out in the craft room. We painted the bulbs with the white acrylic paint (three coats) and while that was drying we removed the lace from the burlap.  The burlap, the ribbon and the lace were all cut into 7 inch strips (approximately).  When the bulbs were dry and put back on the necklace we started to layer the burlap, the ribbon and the lace. It still seemed to be missing something so I added a few randomly placed pieces of jute twine.

It started off being hung on my craft room peg board, then it went on the tree (if I make about 5 more they would cover the tree), then it made it’s way above the Christmas tree and is now hanging off the blinds (first picture at the top of the post).

I found my inspiration for this here.

That concludes my 12 Days of Christmas Pinterest Inspired posts for this year (2019).  I’ve enjoyed them and I hope you have too.

So what do you think, was my version a pass or a fail??

Are you inspired now to go search Pinterest for fun, easy ideas to make?

Day 8- 12 Days of Christmas 2019-Pinterest Inspired

               A Wandaful Thing 12 Days of Christmas 2019 – Day 8

I’m so excited to share what I have been up to so far in my 12 Days of Christmas Pinterest Inspired projects. Today is Day 8 and I bring you another ornament. This one has a nautical theme.

Day 8

I found some clear glass ornaments at the thrift store and swirled white acrylic paint on the inside to make the ornament white.

I purchased an SVG file from thehungryjpeg.com you can find that here. I changed it up a bit and adjusted it to fit my ornament.

I used my Cricut Maker to cut out some navy  permanent vinyl and adhered it to the ornament. I found this wonderful contrasting ribbon at Walmart.

I think the ribbon was the perfect accent for the ornament. I had some blue striped twine in my craft stash and decided to use that to hang the ornament from the tree. I really like the way it turned out.

This was my inspiration which can be found here for sale at etsy.

So what do you think, was my version a pass or a fail?? In my books it’s a definite pass.

It’s been a great deal of fun preparing for this event, and I can’t wait to show you what Wandaful Things I’ll be up to next. :)
