Day 7 : Peppermint Bark Oreos

Peppermint Bark Oreo Cookies

These make great neighbor gifts. They are easy to make and take no time at all. Christmas and peppermint seem to go together and when you combine peppermint with white chocolate and Oreos you have a winning combination.  If you give them to the neighbors they are going to love them, I promise.

Day 4: Salted Caramel Pretzel Pecan Bon-Bons

Salted Caramel Pretzel Pecan Bon-Bons

day-1-7

Welcome to Day 4 of my 12 Days of Christmas making, baking and decorating. Today I bring you a most decadent treat that is both salty and sweet (two of my favorite things). A gift anyone on your Christmas list would be happy to receive. This recipe yields 40 bon bons, meaning you could eat 10 and still have enough to make 3 people very happy!

Preheat your oven to 325 F.  Place your mini pretzels on a parchment lined baking sheet.

Unwrap your caramels and place one caramel per one pretzel.

img_6192

Bake them for 7-8 minutes. You want the caramel soft enough to accept the pecan, but definitely not melted!

Once the caramel pretzels have emerged from the oven, you’ll want to quickly press a toasted pecan into the top of each one.

September Craft Challenge – how to make a soap dispenser from a mason jar.

September Craft Challenge – make a craft using a mason jar.

Just in case you are new and this is your first time visiting, here’s the scoop.

August Craft 2For the Third Monday of every month, Amelia (my friend and fellow blogger) and I do a project or post based on one chosen DIY craft or theme, then we share our results and hopefully have inspired you to join the challenge. (The links to my challenge results can be found at the end of this post.)

Last month was our terracotta plant pot challenge, the picture to the left shows the candle holder I made.

This month the craft challenge item was a mason jar . I’ve wanted to make my own mason jar soap dispenser ever since I saw one on the blog One Good Thing By Jillie and that was back in 2012, be sure to check it out, it has a great tutorial.

This is my version of a mason jar soap dispenser and a quick description of how I made it.mason-jar-soap-dispenser

I made the hole in the lid with a drill and then used a dremel tool to make the hole big enough for the soap pump to fit.  I spray painted the lid and the ring black to match my bathroom, then glued the pump in with E6000 and once it was dry and filled with soap it was ready to go.  I can’t decide whether or not to chalk paint the mason jar ….what do you think?soap-dispenser

Mother’s Day DIY Gift Ideas

I often try to think of different and unique ways to a wrap a gift. I have an absolute love of canning jars and vintage aprons so when I saw this idea over at Evermine blog I knew I was going to do this for my own mom this year for Mother’s Day.

apron-inajar-4Here is the vintage apron I will be giving her. Thank goodness this is a quick and easy DIY, which means I still have time to get it done.

Wandaful Project Ideas

February and March are the months I spend planning my projects for the rest of the year. After the climax of Christmas and Valentine’s Day, I tend to slow down and hibernate for a few weeks and do a lot of searching on the internet and going through my favorite magazine collections searching for inspiration for my next round of  projects and of course to checkout the latest & greatest trends in DIY, making, baking and decorating.

I am sharing some of my discoveries today.  I’d love to put them all on my project list!

I’ve been trying to collect some old rulers in my travels because I saw quite a number of fabulous ideas for re-purposing them over at  Lush Home – I’ve only pictured one so go check the rest out.

The little flower vases shown below are made from Dollar Store S&P shakers but I have lots of vintage S&P shakers and I might just have to give this idea a whirl. Idea found on frumpybumpkin.com

Homeroad was a homerun with this vintage cheese grater organizer that is useful and playful for any kitchen.

I have a love of mirrors and there are tons of great DIY decorating with mirror ideas over at Pretty Handy Girl. I liked this one because it re-purposed a vintage angel food cake pan.

Great redo on the metal tub – full tutorial at Muddaritaville.

I like this re-purposed washboard from Vintage with laces. I wonder how long it will take me to find a metal washboard.

With Easter just around the corner Amber at Crazy Little Projects definitely peeped my interest with her latest round-up post on 25 Fun Peeps Ideas for Easter. I mean check out how adorable this is…

For the most part I really like the floors in my house, I have hardwood and vinyl plank that looks like barn board throughout my little house but one room that needs updating has laminate and that laminate is not in the best condition.  Since there is no budget for new flooring,  I have been wondering if it is possible to paint my laminate. I found some instructions on LifeHacker. I might have to try this (maybe under the fridge to start haha).

This Spring table runner made from vintage doilies is from Sadie Seasongoods. I think my fellow blogger Amelia (You Can Always Start Now) should try this as she has a collection of her late mother’s doilies and I know she wants to display them, I hope to see her version.
