I have been blogging under the name “A Wandaful Thing” for slightly over a year now and it’s been a lot of fun.
The following posts are my top 15 favorites for 2015. These posts (and those responsible for them) inspired me, helped me, challenged me and impressed me.
Without further adieu…I hope you enjoy them as much I as did.
Farmhouse Master Bedroom redo from Prodigal Pieces – so many vintage pieces – LOVE IT!!
2. DIY Bathroom Vanity by Shanty 2 Chic – this post comes complete with downloadable building plans. I simply adore this idea as my “only” bathroom is about this size and it has been hard to find a small vanity that will fit. I hope I am able to try this project in 2016.
3. This inspiration board from is from my friend Amelia at You Can Always Start Now. I am envious of how full her board is but also inspired to make one of my own.
4. Old rusty bucket turned into a flower-pot from Petticoat Junktion – this woman makes so many cool things from vintage and flea market finds – you just have to check her out.
5. Under 30 minutes, easy, gorgeous Spring Wreath from the Bold Abode.
6. DIY coasters and tutorial from Gretchen at Boxy Colonial – she has them entitled coasters for Christmas but you could make them for any occasion – adorable.
7. I have been a BIG fan of Donna at Funk Junk Interiors for a few years now and she has a been an inspiration for some of my own projects. She actually gets two spots on my list this year. This toilet tissue holder made from a crate and an old license plate and (see #8) 🙂
8. Apple Farm Sign with rustic twine also from Funky Junk Interiors – I purchased the stencils and have this on my 2016 project list.
Last month, Amelia from the blog You Can Always Start Now sent me a link to a post she read on the blog Centsational Girl regarding answers to 10 questions that would allow others to know a bit more about her. In turn she challenged other bloggers to answer 10 questions. Amelia and I decided to challenge each other. Below are the questions and my answers. Be sure to click over to read Amelia’s answers and you’ll probably discover a little bit more about both of us.
If you are interested in what started it all, here is the link to the Centsational Girl post.
Do you prefer summer or winter?
I definitely prefer summer. I love when the earth starts to come alive and plants begin to bloom and all the dark and coldness of winter goes away.
We love to BBQ and it’s just so much easier in the summer ,we still BBQ in winter but you can spend time sitting on the patio and eating al fresco. I usually always take my vacation in summer so I get to travel and spend time with my family and my travels usually coincide with lobster season :).
One of my favorite things (as you know if you follow this blog) is to vintage hunt at outdoor antique and estate sales and garage and yard sales and of course these “outdoor” sales only happen in the summer (where I live, anyway).I admit I am not as productive in the summer as far as projects go but I figure that’s what the colder months of winter are for, lol!
2. What is on your bucket list that you have done?
Start my own vintage sales business and thus far I LOVE it.
and I have been in a live audience and have seen Dr. Wayne Dyer speak (more on that below).
3. What is your favorite room in your house and why?
This changes from time to time but my favorite room in my house right now is my office/craft/studio area. I have a small loft area at the top of my stairs which leads into the only bedroom in our house. It took me a long time to figure out how to use this space. I thought it might make a nice big closet, then I thought it would be a great area for putting on my makeup and as a reading/sewing room.
Now that I have been blogging for a while and since I started selling vintage trinkets, treasures and other interesting things, I needed an area that I could go to when I needed to write, create, take pictures and sew (on occasion) instead of always taking over the kitchen table. It still has some finishing touches to go but I really enjoy being in this space.
4. Share something you have pinned or bookmarked and tell us why you love it?
Click here for the pinterest view. This bench really resonated with me as it was clean and crisp and a wonderful example of repurposing something that might have ended up in the garbage . I have a headboard/footboard that I rescued from the roadside and I am hoping to turn it into something similar to this.
5. What is your guilty pleasure?
A really cold glass bottle of Coca Cola and dark chocolate, any variety of dark chocolate will do but Breton Brittle is one of my favorites -( a secret family recipe…) and yes, on occasion I do enjoy them at the same time.
6. What is your favorite color and where do you use it?
My favorite color has always been red. Yellow is a close second along with black and white. There is a touch of red in almost every room in my house. I use red mostly as accent colors, in rugs, throw cushions, wall art, mugs and other subtle places. I don’t really think about it, it just seems to work.
7. What is your go to meal?
My go to meal is done in the slow cooker and I call it saucy meatballs. I like to make my own meatballs but you could easily buy frozen and that would work just as well. So three ingredients, a bottle of grape jelly, a bottle of chili sauce and meatballs – a few hours in the slow cooker and you’ve got supper. Sometimes I cook rice or mashed potatoes to go with them and if I have time I’ll make tea biscuits.
8. Is there a book or an author that has resonated with you over your life and why?
Anything written by Dr Wayne Dyer has always resonated with me. He always seems to pop into my life (via a book I pick up or a TV special I turn on) whenever I need him. I actually had the distinct honor to be in one of his audiences when he spoke about Wishes Fulfilled in Halifax, Nova Scotia.
My heart aches as I type this as I my mentor and favorite author passed away yesterday (August 30, 2015) – may he enjoy the next venture that awaits him. I hope he sends us all a sign to let us know what that is 🙂
9. How many items are on your project list and what are the top two you want to finish next or are working on?
I am almost embarrassed to tell you but I have at least 25 ++projects on the list. A great majority of these are painting projects…ugh! The top two to finish before October are Mylo’s cat bed, he is my infamous cat, who loves getting in the way when I am trying to take post pictures. I also want to paint the cabinet we found at auction that we plan on using in our almost complete bathroom …. a renovation we started but ran out of money and energy, oh yes, these things do happen and yes there are probably 10 projects to finish in that bathroom alone…sigh!
10. If you could rewind your life by 20 years what piece of advise would you follow?
I would make smarter money choices (ie: start a retirement fund early) and not put off til tomorrow what you can do or start today (like a blog or your own business).
I’d love to see your answers to some of these questions, it would be A Wandafulthing to get to know my readers better!!
It has been quite awhile since I’ve heard from my friend the Surly Mermaid. The expressions expressed are hers and hers alone but I do enjoy providing a forum for her to express herself.
Facebook Status- The Irritation Game
I have been known to delete Facebook “friends” over their stupid Facebook status updates. I can’t believe all the incessant whining . It gets to be very annoying.
Really, there is no need to post all your perceived medical drama on line because all the world has already figured out that you are a hypochondriac. Seriously, stop posting all your problems because I am embarrassed for you. There needs to be an eye roll button. Charlie Brown definitely had it right…
Next comes the “links”. All the stupid “links” looking for “likes”. I want Facebook to have a “dislike” button. Oh yeah, wouldn’t that be awesome but I am sure I would be accused of being a cyber bully because I would use that one waay too much.
It seems like forever since I shared some of my favorite DIY projects.
I must confess, working a full-time job, running a part-time vintage sale business and tying to squeeze in all those projects on my “to-do” list, I haven’t had much time to read my favorite blogs or check out some of my favorite sites and share what I’ve discovered.
I changed that up this week and got all caught up on my favorite blogs/bloggers and visited some of my favorite sites and I’m anxious and excited to share a few of my new favorite things. …
It’s been awhile since I heard from my friend |The Surly Mermaid” she lives back East and was probably buried in snow for the last while. I am so glad she has resurfaced as I love hearing about her quips and snibs of what’s on her mind. So without further adieu….
So because of a health issue, I am on a diet. The bloody thing is so strict basically my treat is AIR. I am seeing results regarding weight loss on this diet, but it is hard, very hard to stay on track.
This morning, at dawn, I was walking my dog before heading off to work. It was a balmy plus 4 degrees (oh joy). The birds were already out singing their songs.
One bird in particular took a fancy to me. The male black-capped chickadee. He was trying to woo me.
Unfortunately for me his song almost put my over the edge!! Why? is that what you are wondering? Well ,you see this particular little bird is also known as the “Cheeseburger Bird”. If you listen carefully to his song he is singing cheeeeeessseburger, cheeeesseburger.
That bird followed me all around my block screaming his retched little song at me. Mocking me with my every step. I couldn’t get it out of my head and of course, I craved a cheeeeesseburger all day long.
Tomorrow I have decided to walk my cat!
Take that you bird you!
Hopefully, there isn’t a bird that sings about wine or all will be lost.
Until next time….
