Vintage and Thrift Hunting- Post #5

Welcome back to Vintage and Thrift Hunting this is Post #5. I am so happy you’re here and can’t wait to share with you my latest thrifty and auction finds!

One of my favorite bloggers is Diana from Adirondack Girl @Heart and this week she said something rather catchy but it wasn’t exactly true for me this week. She said it was a vintage day in the neighborhood.  It wasn’t a total bust but it wasn’t my best week either. It’s a good thing that the garage sale(ing) season is just beginning so there will be plenty of time to scope out and buy vintage treasures.

I will show you some of the finds from those two fabulous auctions I mentioned in my previous posts as well as a few items I scored this week.

Here are two beautiful vintage cobalt blue bottles – the corks are not original.  These sell individually on Etsy for $12.00 a piece. I sold both bottles for $12.00

Vintage and Thrift Hunting- Post #4

Welcome back to Vintage and Thrift Hunting this is Post #4. I am so happy you’re here and can’t wait to share with you my latest thrifty and auction finds!

Quick recap: Since one of my favorite pastimes is vintage and thrift hunting, I’ve decided to start a regular feature here on the blog about the fun and interesting things I find whether I am scouring thrift stores, garage or tag sales, antique markets or estate auctions.

Since my last post, I’ve been to two lucrative auctions and managed an entire day of garage sales.  I won’t be able to show all my fabulous treasures in this post but I’ve picked out a few of my favourites.

Everything goes in trends and lately old rotary phones are very popular and since the last post I have bought and sold three more vintage rotary dial phones.  Two of them are desktop phones and one is a wall mount.(Only showing the brown and black wall mount)

Next is a nice old rusty saw blade. This thing is huge – I thought one of my female customers would snap this up for a decoration or to paint but turns out I have a few male followers who were quite interested in this blade.  Win-Win!

Everything I buy, in my mind, has a story or I can relate a story to the item. These adorable baby sized Wooden shoes from Holland reminded me of a pair that my father owned when I was a young girl. I fondly remember trying to walk in his over sized shoes, something I could never fill. (Available)

Wooden crates (fruit in this case) are always big sellers, I think it is due to the vast array of things you can use a crate for.  This one is from Japan and held mandarin oranges.  It still has the paper label mostly in tact and the crate itself is in good condition. (SOLD) Continue reading

Vintage and Thrift Hunting- Post #3

Welcome back to Vintage and Thrift Hunting this is Post #3.

Even though there is still snow on the ground Auction season has begun and for me so did the fun. Since my last post I’ve been to two auctions and I have to say I found some awesome items.

The item below looks like a salt or pepper shaker but actually it is Avon Vintage milk glass that looks like a salt shaker with a yellow plastic screw on lid. As you can see it is decorated with yellow flowers and orange and yellow butterflies. These were originally sold by Avon filled with perfumed cream (and there is still a little left inside) Available $6.00

Next is a vintage “The Piqua” metal and wood 13 inch butcher paper cutter.  It is spring loaded where the paper sits, with a nice overall age and patina. Metal parts have rust and corrosion consistent with age and I think it adds to the rustic look of it. (SOLD)

Who remembers these?  I grew up in a household with the one that was mounted to the wall and had a party-line. This is a wonderful collectible, black vintage rotary phone. It still works 🙂 I bet a lot of young folks wouldn’t even know what to do with it, ha ha ha! (SOLD).

Result from the Eight Dollar Easter Decorating Challenge

I recently posted a challenge to do some Easter Decorating for under $8.00 CDN- I referred to the Youtube challenge I followed that was started by Hillary from My So Called Home.

You can see that post here.

My vignette coast me $1.50 as I only purchased the three Vintage bunny banks at $0.50 a piece.  I scoured the house for items that I already  had and came up with a few varieties but this first one is my favorite. Here is proof on my price … I remember these fuzzy bunny banks from when I was young.

AND a closer look at what is in the picture.

Here are the other vignette’s I tried that weren’t quite right…lol Continue reading

Eight Dollar Easter Decorating Challenge

I’ve recently enjoyed viewing the $5.00 Goodwill Challenge Spring Decorating 2017 that was started by Hillary from My So Called Home. Here is the playlist to all the YouTubers that took her challenge- check them out, you might get inspired. The playlist from Hillary – My so called home http://bit.ly/2miYBsi

Well that $5.00 US is equal to about $6.69 CDN dollars 😦 and lets face it thrift finds are more plentiful and cheaper in the USA.  However, having said that – I am definitely up for the challenge and I’ll be keeping my budget under $10.00 – let’s say at a healthy $8.00

I am putting out the challenge on this blog, my Facebook page and my instagram page hashtag #EasterDecoratingChallenge.

Here is a cute idea from bellalimento
