Day 12 – 12 Days of Christmas 2018

Welcome to Day 12 and my final day of 12 Days of Christmas 2018

On the 12th day of Christmas I made this adorable Santa’s Underwear Candy Cane Holder, complete with a cute gift tag and a poem that reads “we looked for a stocking, but couldn’t find a spare, so we ended up stuffing Santa’s red underwear”.

I drew a pattern on a piece of paper (downloadable pdf)  Santa Underwear 2 . I’m definitely not an artist, lol, be sure to use the dashed line as your guide. Cut out the pieces, you’ll need three in total; two long johns (a front and a back) and one flap. You could sew this with a sewing machine or hand stitch it but to save time I decided to use a glue gun . You need to either sew or adhere the front piece to the back piece and then either sew or glue the sides of the flap. When you position the flap on the back of the long johns, make sure it is centered but closer to the bottom.  Make a small horizontal slit under the flap just big enough for the candy cane to slip in. I did this after I glued the pieces together but in hindsight it would have been easier to cut the slit before gluing the pieces together.

I embellished the front of the long johns and the black flap with some black craft rhinestones to resemble black buttons.  I cut out a tag using my Cricut Explore Air One. You could easily design and print a tag using pretty much any printer. I put a ribbon on the tag and attached it to the long j0hns with a safety-pin. Don’t forget to add the candy cane.

Using a glue gun definitely made this craft easy and quick. This would be a fun craft to do with your kids. You could make several, they would make fun Secret Santa gifts.

It’s been a great deal of fun preparing all the items for this event.

It’s been A Wandaful Thing!

Day 11 – 12 Days of Christmas 2018

Welcome to Day 11 of my 12 Days of Christmas 2018

I am very excited about today’s craft idea as I have had this on my craft bucket list for a very long time.  Mittens made by repurposing an old sweater.  I found this very cute and colorful little girl’s sweater for $1.50 at a local thrift store. I washed it in hot water and dried it in the dryer.  I was able to make two pair of adult mittens from this sweater.

First I cut off the sleeves as I wanted the cuffs on the sleeves to be the cuff on the mittens.

Then I used a pair of mittens I already own as a template and cut around the mittens to make my pattern.

If you are wondering about the colorful mitten in the picture above, my talented, beautiful daughter made those (without a pattern) many years ago, which goes to show, handmade mittens last a very long time and they don’t go out of style.

Once the mittens pattern was cut from both sleeves, I simply sewed up the openings – a sewing machine would make this go much faster but because I used the sleeves, I was able to keep the sewing to a minimum, which was a very good thing as I ended up hand stitching them.  I think they turned out pretty darn cute.  I plan on keeping this pair for myself.

Repurposing an old sweater into cute mittens, it’s A Wandaful Thing!

It’s been a great deal of fun preparing for this event, and I can’t wait to show you all the Wandaful Things I’ve been up to. :)

Day 10 – 12 Days of Christmas 2018

Welcome to Day 10 of my 12 Days of Christmas 2018

Today I bring you another under 30 minute craft idea you can use to package up a small gift and or some edible treats. The one I made is from Cricut Design Space and it is called Cricut Snowflake Treat Box, here is the link.

If you don’t have an electronic cutting machine, I will leave a link to some print and cut files below, so you can still make your own treat gift boxes.

Cricut Design Space features Ready-to-Make projects. These Ready-to- Make projects include everything from home décor to fashion to paper crafting, and even a variety of FREE projects. To make a project, all you need to do is gather your supplies and go.

You can create the Ready-to-Make project by clicking the “Make It” button  which takes you directly to the mat preview screen.  If you want to change the size of your project or change it in any other way you can click on the  “Customize” button – this takes you to the design screen were you can make your adjustments. For this little box I decided to leave it as it was originally designed.  It was so great to have my Cricut Explore Air One do all the cutting for me.

I think these handmade gift/treat boxes would make great Secret Santa gifts and/or neighbour gifts.

As promised here are some links to treat boxes you can print, cut by hand and embellish to your liking. Continue reading Day 10 – 12 Days of Christmas 2018

Day 9 – 12 Days of Christmas 2018

Welcome to Day 9 of my 12 Days of Christmas 2018

At the end of August (wow that seems so long ago), Michaels had flip-flops on sale for 70% off so I bought a few pair and figured I’d wait until inspiration hit me to do something with them.

That inspiration came when I saw this video by Tanner Bell.  Using iron on vinyl to personalize flip-flops.

I decided to personalize a pair of flip-flops for my daughter for Christmas and since she lives in Texas, I thought cacti would be cute. Here are the two images I used from Cricut Design Space (#M877022C)(#M855825F)Since I am planning a trip to visit her soon, I decided I needed a pair too.  Once I had my designs printed I used my Cricut easy press to adhere the vinyl to the flip-flops.

So fast, so easy, so cute – and start to finish under 30 minutes.

Here are close up pictures of the designs I used.

Personalized flip-flops are A Wandaful Thing!

It’s been a great deal of fun preparing for this event, and I can’t wait to show you all the Wandaful Things I’ve been up to. :)

Day 8 – 12 Days of Christmas 2018

Welcome to Day 8 of my 12 Days of Christmas 2018

Today I bring to you easy to make music sheet gift tags, another under 30 minute idea.

Don’t worry, if you don’t have any music sheets you can download them here.  I printed the music sheets on white paper but realized it was too thin for gift tags so I glued the music sheets to card stock.  I used my Cricut Design space and uploaded an image of a gingerbread man and a Christmas tree and sized them to what I thought would make a nice size gift tag and cut them out with my Cricut die cutting machine.  You don’t need an electronic die cutting machine to make these gift tags. If you have cookie cutters you can trace them on the music sheets or draw your own designs and cut them out with scissors. I used a hole punch to make room for twine.

Cute handmade gift tags, in less than 30 minutes, now that’s a A Wandaful Thing!

It’s been a great deal of fun preparing for this event, and I can’t wait to show you all of the Wandaful Things I’ve been up to. :)

Day 7 – 12 Days of Christmas 2018

Welcome to Day 7 of my 12 Days of Christmas 2018

Today’s easy under 30 minute gift idea is a Seaglass Christmas Tree ornament. I have collected Seaglass for a good number of years and usually display it in dishes scattered around my house.  A dear friend of mine makes wonderful art with some of the Seaglass she has collected and encouraged me to finally use some of mine, other than just in jars and dishes around the house.  LOL as you will see I started out slow.

I only used four pieces of seaglass, some e6000 glue and a ribbon for hanging.  To make one similar to the one I made you need three pieces of green glass that are similar in shape and size and one piece of brown Seaglass. You simply overlap the green pieces and glue them in place and add a brown piece that looks like a trunk on the back of the green pieces at the widest end. I added a piece of red cotton ribbon on the back and a rhinestone for decoration on the front. I didn’t like the fact the e6000 glue looked shiny when it dried against the natural look of the Seaglass so I decided to give the whole thing, both front and back a clear coat of nail polish.

Here is picture before I added the clear coat of nail polish.

So if you have any Seaglass and are wondering what to do with it here is a link to my Wandaful Seaglass Pinterest page where I have pinned lots of ideas, and maybe one of these days, I’ll even decide to try another project.

Have you ever made any Wandaful Things from Seaglass?  If so I’d love to see what they are.

Day 6 – 12 Days of Christmas 2018

Welcome to Day 6 of my 12 Days of Christmas of 2018

Today I bring you two variations of easy to make handmade Christmas cards.  One is made using an electronic cutter machine (mine is a Cricut Explore) but you could use a Silhouette, Brother or any other cutter. The other card is made using cardstock, Mod Podge and glitter. Both cards are quick and easy to create (under 30 minutes).

I have access to thousands of free images with my Cricut Design Space membership but there are plenty of sites that offer free cut files, here’s a cute one from svgcuts.com

The one I used for the cutout Christmas trees is called Christmas Tree Cute Card #M45FE2

My Cricut Explore Air made things pretty quick and easy. I followed the prompts for the cuts and the instructions on how to put it all together and before I knew it I had a beautiful Christmas card ready to write and send. I liked it so much I decided to make a few more. Link to the Santa card image.

Link to the Reindeer card image.

I also really enjoyed making the Mod Podge glitter tree. Keeping reading to see how easy it is to make. Continue reading Day 6 – 12 Days of Christmas 2018
