Day 11 – A WandafulThing 12 Days of Christmas 2019 -Pinterest Inspired

                  A WandafulThing 12 Days of Christmas 2019 – Day 11

It’s getting really close to the end of my 12 Days of Christmas 2019. I hope you have been following along and enjoying my Pinterest Inspired ideas so far (links to projects can be found at the end of this post).

This is Day 11 and today’s post will be about using Chalk Couture products to make one of a kind Christmas decor. Click on the link to go to my website https://www.chalkcouture.ca/awandafulthing where you can find all the pastes and transfers used in these projects.

I upcycled two thrift store serving trays.  The first tray is made of wood and rattan. Normally I would paint a tray like this but decided to leave it as it was as I hoped the red Chalk paste would be a nice accent.

I used my “merry” transfer and candy apple red chalk paste. I was very pleased with the bright red against the wood grain. I like the understated elegant simplicity of it.

The second tray I decided to upcycle was an old vintage metal tray. Continue reading Day 11 – A WandafulThing 12 Days of Christmas 2019 -Pinterest Inspired

Day 9 – A WandafulThing 12 Days of Christmas 2019 -Pinterest Inspired

                  A WandafulThing 12 Days of Christmas 2019 – Day 9

Welcome to Day 9 of my 12 Days of Christmas 2019. This is my 6th year in a row bringing you 12 Days of Christmas from A Wandaful Thing.  Today’s Pinterest inspired idea are these cute DIY Dollar Tree Enamel Ornaments. Adding a custom look is quick, simple and easy.  You can pick up these ornaments for $1.25 each at the Dollar tree and they come already adorned with burlap and pine cones.

All that was needed to make these look like vintage enamel ornaments was a black Sharpie permanent marker and some ribbon.

It was pretty easy to make these ornaments look like vintage enamel, you simply add black marks with the Sharpie in areas where you think they would naturally wear. If you own any vintage enamelware take a look at where it has worn over the years and you will get the idea of how to make it look aged.

My inspiration came from one of my favorite YouTuber’s The Daily Diyer, you can watch her youtube video here.

These were so fast and easy to make and would look great on any Christmas tree, used as an embellishment on a gift or put in a dish and displayed as Christmas decor.

It’s been a great deal of fun preparing for this event.

Day 2 – A WandafulThing 12 Days of Christmas 2019 -Pinterest Inspired

                  A WandafulThing 12 Days of Christmas 2019 – Day 2

Welcome to Day 2 of my 12 Days of Christmas 2019. This is my 6th year in a row bringing you 12 Days of Christmas from A Wandaful Thing. Today’s Pinterest inspired idea are these cute little wooden bead snowman ornaments.

I purchased these beads at Michaels for $5.99. That means you could make 4 ornaments from one string of beads.  All you need to do is string three beads on the twine of your choice.

I like the wood look so didn’t bother to paint them.  I had some different types and colors of twine that I used to make each one and mixed and matched the bows and the twine. Permanent black and orange markers finished the look.

These were my inspiration, you can find a link to them here .

So what do you think, was my version a pass or a fail?? I think mine were close to a fail but I will still hang them from my Christmas tree 🙂

It’s been a great deal of fun preparing for this event, and I can’t wait to show you what Wandaful Things I’ve been up to. :)

IKEA Items and Chalk Couture #5 – Give Thanks

In my last post – check that out here, I showed you how I transformed blank IKEA Gurli pillow covers into customized home decor using Chalk Couture ink.

I also wanted to show how versatile and easy it is to make customized items for your home, using products from big box stores.

Today I am showing you the last of my IKEA products I purchased to transform with Chalk Couture products. When I saw this little wooden IKEA crate , I knew it would make a nice display for my kitchen. The  longest  part  of the  whole  project  was  putting  the  crate  together. I forgot to take a picture of the crate before I added the chalk paste.

I only used one transfer but three different pastes. The transfers have a sticky side and a side that you apply the chalk paste or ink on.  I had my tools ready which included my fuzzing cloth,  chalk paste, stir stick and small squeegies to apply the paste.

I also love all the surfaces that Chalk Couture sells and you can check all the products they sell right here on my own Chalk Couture website https://www.chalkcouture.com/awandafulthing

The transfer I used is very versatile and I have already used it on three different surfaces; raw wood, a chalkboard stand and an oil painting that I painted black and then waxed and applied the chalk paste on. The frame on the painting originally was gold so I used chalk paint and a wet rag to distress it and make it look chabby chic. I waxed it with Minwax to protect it.

Weekend Coffee Share – Trip to IKEA for crafting decor items

My dearest friend and fellow blogger Amelia at You Can Always Start Now has turned me onto Weekend Coffee Share. She got turned on to it by Eclectic Ali.

It’s exactly what the title indicates – share something on your mind or something you have done over the past week.

It is a long weekend here in my part of the world, which means three days off in a row.

Most people have gone away for the weekend but I had no plans. I’ve pretty much been on the go every weekend since summer started so I decided this was the weekend to rejuvenate.

I’ve recently become a Designer with Chalk Couture in Canada and am so pleased with the products.  What is Chalk Couture – well, you can check that out here if want to.

Of course, like any company they sell and encourage you to use their products and for the most part I do. However, I like to push limits sometimes and I was curious as to what types of surfaces you can use this chalk paste and ink on.  Off to IKEA I went, so I could have some crafty projects to keep me busy on this long weekend (besides the two books I devoured so far).

For just under $50.00 I found 10 surfaces I could customize. A laundry basket, two blank pillow covers, a wooden crate (assembly required), three fake succulents in one package, one real succulent, a boot mat, and a soap dispenser.

I’ve created something on all of them except the crate – maybe I’ll feel like assembling that tomorrow.

So as I drink my coffee and write my post, I think well now that was fun and WOW 10 personalized items for under 50 bucks.

I’ll be posting pics and details in a soon to be published post.

Thanks for stopping by. I hope to see you back here soon.
