Day 11 – A WandafulThing 12 Days of Christmas 2019 -Pinterest Inspired

                  A WandafulThing 12 Days of Christmas 2019 – Day 11

It’s getting really close to the end of my 12 Days of Christmas 2019. I hope you have been following along and enjoying my Pinterest Inspired ideas so far (links to projects can be found at the end of this post).

This is Day 11 and today’s post will be about using Chalk Couture products to make one of a kind Christmas decor. Click on the link to go to my website https://www.chalkcouture.ca/awandafulthing where you can find all the pastes and transfers used in these projects.

I upcycled two thrift store serving trays.  The first tray is made of wood and rattan. Normally I would paint a tray like this but decided to leave it as it was as I hoped the red Chalk paste would be a nice accent.

I used my “merry” transfer and candy apple red chalk paste. I was very pleased with the bright red against the wood grain. I like the understated elegant simplicity of it.

The second tray I decided to upcycle was an old vintage metal tray. Continue reading Day 11 – A WandafulThing 12 Days of Christmas 2019 -Pinterest Inspired

Day 10 – A WandafulThing 12 Days of Christmas 2019 -Pinterest Inspired

                  A WandafulThing 12 Days of Christmas 2019 – Day 10

It’s already Day 10 of my 12 Days of Christmas 2019, where does the time go? I hope you have been following along and enjoying the pinterest inspired ideas so far.

Day 10 brings you an upcycled wine bottle using paint and an image transfer technique.

The wine jug was found at the thrift store so, no, my friend did not have to drink the wine this time, lol.

I tried to cover the bottle with white chalk paint but for some reason it would not stick to the bottle so I gave it two coats of white spray paint instead. I found the free graphic on The Graphics Fairy website, here is the link to the image I used.

As per the instructions you will find at ArtsyVaVa, I printed out the graphic in reverse on a laser printer. I adhered the graphic to the bottle using mod podge as that was all I had on hand at the time, although it is recommended to use Dixie Belle clear coat (I would use that next time).

Once it was completely dry, I sprayed the paper with water and started to rub off the paper to reveal the image.  It didn’t quite work out the way it was supposed to as I rubbed off too much of the image but I think it looks “more” antiquey (is that a word) this way.

I added jute twine with hot glue around the top of the jug and added some floral sprays (red berries and silver leaves for the Christmas feel).

My inspiration came from ArtsyVaVa and can be found here.

Even though I think this was a Pinterest fail due to the fact I did not follow the instructions exactly, I do like it and have made it worthy of display as home decor. It will be easy to change it up for different seasons.

It’s been a great deal of fun preparing for this event, and I hope you come back for the last two days of 12 Days of Christmas 2019.

Day 9 – A WandafulThing 12 Days of Christmas 2019 -Pinterest Inspired

                  A WandafulThing 12 Days of Christmas 2019 – Day 9

Welcome to Day 9 of my 12 Days of Christmas 2019. This is my 6th year in a row bringing you 12 Days of Christmas from A Wandaful Thing.  Today’s Pinterest inspired idea are these cute DIY Dollar Tree Enamel Ornaments. Adding a custom look is quick, simple and easy.  You can pick up these ornaments for $1.25 each at the Dollar tree and they come already adorned with burlap and pine cones.

All that was needed to make these look like vintage enamel ornaments was a black Sharpie permanent marker and some ribbon.

It was pretty easy to make these ornaments look like vintage enamel, you simply add black marks with the Sharpie in areas where you think they would naturally wear. If you own any vintage enamelware take a look at where it has worn over the years and you will get the idea of how to make it look aged.

My inspiration came from one of my favorite YouTuber’s The Daily Diyer, you can watch her youtube video here.

These were so fast and easy to make and would look great on any Christmas tree, used as an embellishment on a gift or put in a dish and displayed as Christmas decor.

It’s been a great deal of fun preparing for this event.

Day 2 – A WandafulThing 12 Days of Christmas 2019 -Pinterest Inspired

                  A WandafulThing 12 Days of Christmas 2019 – Day 2

Welcome to Day 2 of my 12 Days of Christmas 2019. This is my 6th year in a row bringing you 12 Days of Christmas from A Wandaful Thing. Today’s Pinterest inspired idea are these cute little wooden bead snowman ornaments.

I purchased these beads at Michaels for $5.99. That means you could make 4 ornaments from one string of beads.  All you need to do is string three beads on the twine of your choice.

I like the wood look so didn’t bother to paint them.  I had some different types and colors of twine that I used to make each one and mixed and matched the bows and the twine. Permanent black and orange markers finished the look.

These were my inspiration, you can find a link to them here .

So what do you think, was my version a pass or a fail?? I think mine were close to a fail but I will still hang them from my Christmas tree 🙂

It’s been a great deal of fun preparing for this event, and I can’t wait to show you what Wandaful Things I’ve been up to. :)
