Day 2- A WandafulThing 12 Days of Christmas 2020

                  A WandafulThing 12 Days of Christmas 2020 – Day 2

Thank you for joining me for my 12 Days of Christmas 2020.

If you missed Day 1- there will be a link to at the end of this post.

I’m so excited that my 12 Days of Christmas has begun. I usually try to stick to a theme each year, but this year I am going back to the basics of why I started my blog and that was to inspire you to make, bake, create and decorate. Over the next four weeks I will share some simple, easy and budget friendly ideas just in time for the holidays.

Day 2: Painted glass jar votive holder

For these cute little jars you will need:

  • two clean clear jars (lids optional)
  • acrylic paint (I used red and green)
  • vinyl stickers – you can make your own if you have a Cricut die cutting machine or purchase them from the $$ store. It doesn’t matter what color they are as you will remove them after you paint the jars
  • apply the stickers to the front of the jars and then apply two or three coats of paint over the outside of the jar including the sticker. Let dry completely and then remove the stickers from the jar.
  • Apply a coat of mod podge over the jars and let this dry completely. If you decide to use the lids of the jars you can also apply a coat of mod podge on the top of the jar and cover with a sprinkling of epsom salt. Let dry completely and your votive holders will be ready to use.

Day 10 – A WandafulThing 12 Days of Christmas 2019 -Pinterest Inspired

                  A WandafulThing 12 Days of Christmas 2019 – Day 10

It’s already Day 10 of my 12 Days of Christmas 2019, where does the time go? I hope you have been following along and enjoying the pinterest inspired ideas so far.

Day 10 brings you an upcycled wine bottle using paint and an image transfer technique.

The wine jug was found at the thrift store so, no, my friend did not have to drink the wine this time, lol.

I tried to cover the bottle with white chalk paint but for some reason it would not stick to the bottle so I gave it two coats of white spray paint instead. I found the free graphic on The Graphics Fairy website, here is the link to the image I used.

As per the instructions you will find at ArtsyVaVa, I printed out the graphic in reverse on a laser printer. I adhered the graphic to the bottle using mod podge as that was all I had on hand at the time, although it is recommended to use Dixie Belle clear coat (I would use that next time).

Once it was completely dry, I sprayed the paper with water and started to rub off the paper to reveal the image.  It didn’t quite work out the way it was supposed to as I rubbed off too much of the image but I think it looks “more” antiquey (is that a word) this way.

I added jute twine with hot glue around the top of the jug and added some floral sprays (red berries and silver leaves for the Christmas feel).

My inspiration came from ArtsyVaVa and can be found here.

Even though I think this was a Pinterest fail due to the fact I did not follow the instructions exactly, I do like it and have made it worthy of display as home decor. It will be easy to change it up for different seasons.

It’s been a great deal of fun preparing for this event, and I hope you come back for the last two days of 12 Days of Christmas 2019.

Day 6 – 12 Days of Christmas 2018

Welcome to Day 6 of my 12 Days of Christmas of 2018

Today I bring you two variations of easy to make handmade Christmas cards.  One is made using an electronic cutter machine (mine is a Cricut Explore) but you could use a Silhouette, Brother or any other cutter. The other card is made using cardstock, Mod Podge and glitter. Both cards are quick and easy to create (under 30 minutes).

I have access to thousands of free images with my Cricut Design Space membership but there are plenty of sites that offer free cut files, here’s a cute one from svgcuts.com

The one I used for the cutout Christmas trees is called Christmas Tree Cute Card #M45FE2

My Cricut Explore Air made things pretty quick and easy. I followed the prompts for the cuts and the instructions on how to put it all together and before I knew it I had a beautiful Christmas card ready to write and send. I liked it so much I decided to make a few more. Link to the Santa card image.

Link to the Reindeer card image.

I also really enjoyed making the Mod Podge glitter tree. Keeping reading to see how easy it is to make. Continue reading Day 6 – 12 Days of Christmas 2018

A WandafulThing 12 Days of Christmas 2017 – Day 7

Welcome to A WandafulThing 12 Days of Christmas – Day 7

I am thrilled to be able to bring you A WandafulThing 12 Days of Christmas for the 4th year in a row. I’m excited as this year the theme of all of my posts will be about thrifted, gifted (diy) and vintage items as Christmas presents.

Today is Day 7 and this gift falls into the “thrifted” and “gifted” category. This gift is for my mother, who is the great grandmother to my daughter’s three children. A beautiful boy who is 2 and a half and a set of twins 4 months old. This gift was actually the one that cost the least amount of money but I am sure it will be the one most treasured, especially for a person who doesn’t really need anything.

I found two very similar photo frames at Goodwill for $2.00 and a small wooden plaque for $0.50.  I soaked the top of the plaque with a wet rag and the paper picture peeled right off.

I printed and cut two pictures to fit into the frames and printed, cut and mod podged the third picture onto the little wooden plaque.

I just know Great Nanny Louise is going to love this present. I smiled the whole time I was putting it together. Three adorable faces we all love.

I invite you to come back and see what Day 8 brings.

Thrifted, gifted and vintage gifts are A WandafulThing, unique and one of a kind.
