Upcycled Thrift Store Tray

I scored this cute tray with wood handles in the Goodwill Bins last week. I threw it in my cart with the hope I’d get around to painting it the next day and posting about it the next day.  Well that didn’t happen….insert life..lol

(Fast forward one week). The pattern on the tray is cute but I decided I wanted to paint it a solid color and then use my Cricut to make a stencil so I could customize it the way I wanted it.

I bought some Dixie Belle chalk mineral paint called In The Navy, I really love this color, it’s so very rich looking. I also love the Dixie Belle paint line, it covers well, has no odor and comes in 64 colors.

I gave the tray a quick wipe down, then painted it with two coats of paint and let it dry. While it was drying I designed and printed out my stencil. Did I take a picture of the stencil?- NO – I am so bad at taking pictures as I go, especially when I’m creating. Is anyone else like me in that respect?  I used Rust-oleum Chalked paint in linen white on the stencil as that is what I had in my stash.

I decided not to wet distress this tray because I like the crisp look of the white on the navy. I will give it a few coats of wax and a good buff before using it outside on the deck this summer for serving Lemonade. I will share my favorite homemade lemonade recipe in another post.

Upcycled Thrift Store Frame #2

Here are a few of the items I bought this weekend. The larger dark frame in the upper corner I paid $1.50 for.  I decided to upcycle this one first. As I transform the other items (if I do), I’ll do posts on those at a later date.

I also bought some Dixie Belle chalk mineral paint called sea glass, it’s the $15.00 purchase shown above. Here is a closer look at the color.

After I gave the frame a good wipe down, I painted the frame and the picture with one good thick coat of sea glass chalk mineral paint. I am so bad at taking pictures as I go.

I wet distressed the frame and had plans to use a reverse stencil but when I put the vinyl letters on I liked it so much I decided to leave it as it was. Sometimes plans change and sometimes that’s a good thing.

A quick coat of wax and a buff was next. After about an hour or so, it was ready to display and photograph. It will be on sale and on display at our local restaurant called The Vintage Kitchen along with some other vintage kitchen items.  You can check them out here: https://www.facebook.com/VintageKitchenLegal/

Upcycled Thrift Store Frame

I just recently realized a goal that I have had for a long time. Open up an on-line retail store that includes upcycled vintage items and upcycled items that resemble vintage items. I am also including handmade personalized and customizable items as well as some jewelry, fashion and decor items – see links at end of post.

One of the items for sale is this oak frame, which has been upcycled into a cute Easter Bunny wall art.

After I gave the frame a good cleaning I used Rust-oleum chalk paint in linen white and I used a wet distress method to make it look aged. I buy my chalk paint at Canadian Tire for $28.99 per 30 oz.

For the picture I painted a piece of 7″ x 5″ pressboard with three coats of black acrylic craft paint I had in my stash. I used my Cricut Explore Air 2 to cut out a silhouette stencil of a fat bunny and painted the bunny with turquoise Decor Art Crafter’s Acrylic Paint. I made the cute little pompom bunny tail from natural 100% fisherman’s wool.

I used art glitter glue to secure the picture in the frame and to secure the pompom tail to the bunny’s butt. Being impatient for it to dry and photograph I used some weight to help speed things along…lol – you have to use what you have.

After about an hour or so, it was ready to display and photograph. It is up for sale on my new website: www.marymacksmarket.com

If you are wondering about the name of the store it is a combination of my first name and maiden last name and also the name of a very popular folk song. I’ve always known the name would make a great on-line or bricks and mortar store.

I hope you get a chance to check it out either on Facebook or on the actual website.

Welcome to my ” Love Day” Blog Party.

love-blog-party-invite

If you didn’t get a chance to partake in my Winter Blog Party on November 27, 2016, I hope you can stop by on February 12th – 2017 to share something about Love Day a.k.a.Valentine’s Day.  Please feel free to post anything that conjures up a feeling of love for you. Be that a good book, a cup of coffee, your dog, your kids, a craft, an idea – well you get the point.

I am looking forward to curling up in front of my computer with a nice big box of my favorite chocolates (dark chocolate sea salted caramels – hey I know you were wondering) and a hot cup of tea (or three) and checking out your posts and blogs. So read the rules and I look forward to partying with you on February 12th.

For those of you who have never participated in a blog party before, here are the rules:

1. Choose your favorite post from your own blog, instragram, twitter or your facebook page. The subject of the post can be anything you like just try to incorporate Love in there somehow 🙂 Post as many as three but only one post at a time and be sure to spend time visiting others who post, but don’t start posting until February 12, 2017.

2. Copy the URL

3. Paste the link in the comment section of this post.

4. Blog posts only please (or something of your own from twitter, instagram, facebook etc.) No Amazon pages, YouTube, Spotify or Etsy promotion – I will delete these and any further links from anyone who ignores this.

5. Enjoy! Relax, pull up a chair and meet new people! Find new blogs, comment on their posts, be polite, courteous and respectful and don’t forget to follow, reblog, tweet, pin and share.

This is a really useful way of discovering new blogs. A good rule to follow is to check out at least two or three other bloggers for every link that you leave.

Please feel free to invite your friends and you can reblog this post!

Hope to see you there!
