Day 8- 12 Days of Christmas 2019-Pinterest Inspired

               A Wandaful Thing 12 Days of Christmas 2019 – Day 8

I’m so excited to share what I have been up to so far in my 12 Days of Christmas Pinterest Inspired projects. Today is Day 8 and I bring you another ornament. This one has a nautical theme.

Day 8

I found some clear glass ornaments at the thrift store and swirled white acrylic paint on the inside to make the ornament white.

I purchased an SVG file from thehungryjpeg.com you can find that here. I changed it up a bit and adjusted it to fit my ornament.

I used my Cricut Maker to cut out some navy  permanent vinyl and adhered it to the ornament. I found this wonderful contrasting ribbon at Walmart.

I think the ribbon was the perfect accent for the ornament. I had some blue striped twine in my craft stash and decided to use that to hang the ornament from the tree. I really like the way it turned out.

This was my inspiration which can be found here for sale at etsy.

So what do you think, was my version a pass or a fail?? In my books it’s a definite pass.

It’s been a great deal of fun preparing for this event, and I can’t wait to show you what Wandaful Things I’ll be up to next. :)

Day 6- 12 Days of Christmas 2019-Pinterest Inspired

               A Wandaful Thing 12 Days of Christmas 2019 – Day  6

Welcome to Day 6 of my 12 Days of Christmas 2019 Pinterest Inspired things to make. I have to admit that this item is NOT inspired by Pinterest but I am hoping that after I post it to on my Pinterest account it becomes an inspiration for others to copy or modify and make.

Day 6  – I did a hack to adorable little IKEA Vinterfest lanterns.

As soon as I saw them at IKEA ( a package of three was $7.99), I knew exactly what I wanted to do with them.

For another project back in the Spring, I had purchased SVG maps of the Canadian Maritime provinces to use with HTV vinyl for baby onsies and t-shirts.  I had to really reduce the size of the maps to try and fit them on the little lanterns, but I did and it worked. I was worried about how my Cricut maker was going to cut the small version of the maps from permanent vinyl, but it did a great job.

The one above is a cut out from an SVG of a map of Cape Breton Island and the heart represents where I am from. I kinda love it 🙂 Continue reading Day 6- 12 Days of Christmas 2019-Pinterest Inspired

Day 5- 12 Days of Christmas 2019-Pinterest Inspired

               A Wandaful Thing 12 Days of Christmas 2019 – Day 5

I’m so excited that my 12 Days of Christmas has begun. I usually try to stick to a theme each year, this year I am making 12 things that are Pinterest Inspired.

Day 5 is a wine bottle upcycled into Christmas decor.

A very dear friend of mine was kind enough to drink the wine that was in the bottle so I could have it to use for one of my 12 Days of Christmas 2019 Pinterest Inspired items. God bless her.

I found an SVG I liked and sized it to fit on the bottle. I used my Cricut Maker to cut out white permanent vinyl and adhered it to the bottle. I placed a set of battery operated lights inside to complete the look.

I like the way it turned out.

This was my inspiration which can be found here.

Revamped Thrift Store Frame

I almost can’t even call this one an upcycle because I am still using it as it was meant to be used. I only added a little twist.

Here is a picture frame I picked up at a thrift store a while back. I paid a whopping 50 cents for it.  I liked the fact it wasn’t smooth and that it looked like wood tiles (the frame is not wood).

I bought the Martha Stewart Nautical layering stencils # 17635 from Michael’s and got the idea to stencil the glass part of the frame.

I used part of the tall ship stencil (it wouldn’t all fit on the glass).

The light blue paint color is called Pale Blue by Craft Smart, I bought it from Michael’s and the dark blue – Navy is from my stash by Dixie Belle – I used it on the upcycled thrift store tray – check that out here.

I didn’t bother to seal the imagine in case I decide to change or reuse the frame for something else.  It’s not perfect but I like it.

Did you notice the difference in the frame from the first picture? I found the dark brown too stark against the ship so I decided to whitewash the frame. I literally took a really small dab of white acrylic craft paint on a damp stencil brush and scrubbed it into the little blocks. On a few spots it was too much so I wet distressed it before the paint even dried. I used a wet paper towel and literally wiped the areas I thought had too much paint.

After it’s photo shoot I put it on my bookcase where it is eagerly awaiting me to finish upcycling a floating shelf. I have a few more thrifted nautical things I will add along with this frame – stay tuned.

Enhancing what you already have on hand – It’s A Wandaful Thing!

Thanks for stopping by. I hope to see you back here soon.

Day 9 : Christmas Shortbread Bars

Christmas Shortbread Bars

Shortbread is a wonderful thing. It is so full of butter and simply melts in your mouth. It is my all time favorite cookie at Christmas and a ‘must bake’ every year.

shortbread-day-0

This recipe is so easy, no cooling in the fridge, no rolling, no cutting. You just need to combine all the ingredients and pat into an ungreased baking pan. The hardest part is waiting for them to come out of the oven.

The colored sugar gives these cookies the perfect festive look and they are immediately ready for the holidays. This shortbread is Barbara Bush’s recipe from the “White House Cookbook” and can be found online here at Bake Space along with some other delicious recipes.

This recipe makes lots, it filled this vintage cookie tin, this tin wasn’t this pretty blue to begin with,  a can of spray paint can work wonders. 😉

Here is what you need to make these melt in your mouth shortbread bars: Continue reading Day 9 : Christmas Shortbread Bars
