Day 1: Hershey Kiss Christmas Cookies

Welcome to Day 1 of my 12 Days of Christmas 2016.

Over the next 12 Days you can look forward to posts that will include things to make, things to bake and easy ways to decorate.

I’m starting off with these Hershey Kiss Christmas Cookies (that’s my name for them).

I had a good laugh when I read the instructions to remove the wrappers from the candy as the first step in the baking process.  Take it from me buy a big bag….a lot of them ended up in my belly – very, very smart move on the part of the Hershey company…lol

cookies-1The pictures below the recipe show the step by step process after the dough is made.

recipe from Hershey’s
1 bag Hershey’s Kisses brand Candy Cane Kisses (I used Hershey’s Hugs)
1/2 cup butter, softened
1 cup granulated sugar
1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract
1 egg
2 cups all purpose flour
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon baking soda
2 tablespoons milk
Red and Green colored sugar
Preheat over to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Remove wrappers from candies (approx. 35)
Beat butter, sugar, vanilla, and egg in large bowl until well blended. Stir together flour, baking soda and salt; add alternatively with milk to butter mixture, beating until well blended.
Shape dough into 1 inch balls. Roll in red and/or green colored sugar. Place on ungreased cookie sheet.
Bake 8 – 1o minutes or until edges are lightly browned and cookies is set. Remove from oven; cool 2 to 3 minutes. Press candy piece into center of each cookie. Remove from cookie sheet to wire rack. Cool completely. Yields approximately 35 cookies.

Winter Blog Party

Welcome to my “here comes Winter” Blog Party.

It’s been awhile since I hosted a blog party or a link up party so I thought it was high time to do so. Now that the season has changed again (here in my part of Canada) meaning Winter is on its way, I thought it appropriate to have a Winter Blog Party.  I am looking forward to curling up in front of my computer with a nice hot cup of tea (or three) and checking out your posts and blogs. So read the rules and I look forward to partying with you on November 27th.

winter-blog-party-inviteFor those of you who have never participated in a blog party before, here are the rules:

1. Choose your favorite post from your own blog. The subject of the post can be anything you like just try to incorporate Winter in there somehow 🙂 Post as many as three but only one post at a time and be sure to spend time visiting other bloggers. But don’t start posting until November 27th.

2. Copy the URL

3. Paste the link in the comment section of this post.

4. Blog posts only please! No Amazon pages, YouTube, Spotify or Etsy promotion – I will delete these and any further links from anyone who ignores this.

5. Enjoy! Relax, pull up a chair and meet new people! Find new blogs, comment on their posts, be polite, courteous and respectful and don’t forget to follow, reblog, tweet, pin and share.

This is a really useful way of discovering new blogs. A good rule to follow is to check out at least two or three other bloggers for every link that you leave.

Please feel free to invite your friends and you can reblog this post!

Hope to see you there!

I got this idea from participating in a Halloween Link Party at Suzie Speaks so please make sure you check out her blog too!!

October Craft Challenge

October Craft Challenge – recycling or re-purposing any type of  used container.

mason-jar-soap-dispenserJust in case you are new and this is your first time visiting, here’s the scoop. On the Third Monday of every month, Amelia (my friend and fellow blogger) and I do a project or post based on one chosen DIY craft or theme, then we share our results and hopefully have inspired you to join the challenge. (The links to our challenge results can be found at the end of this post.)

Last month was our mason jar challenge and the picture to the left shows the mason jar I turned into a soap dispenser.

This month the challenge was to recycle or re-purpose using any type of used container.  I chose to re-purpose two vintage glass Grenache Caramel containers, which I found in a box that I purchased at an auction.  I thought about selling them on my vintage site Wandaful Things, Trinkets and Treasures  but I decided to use them in my bathroom to store makeup sponges and cotton pads.  The transformation was pretty simple, I removed the labels,  spray painted the lids and added a decorative top as a knob and that was it.

Here are the before and after pictures.

Since the lids on these jars are plastic, I thought a glass knob would be too heavy so I started looking for something light weight (plastic), I found Christmas ornaments at my local Dollarma and immediately knew I wanted to use the tops for my jars. I think they were a perfect choice, don’t you?

August Craft Challenge

August Craft Challenge – decorate with a terra-cotta plant pot!

red addy with pillowJust in case you are new and this is your first time visiting, here’s the scoop.

For the Third Monday of every month, Amelia (my friend and fellow blogger) and I do a project or post based on one chosen DIY craft or theme, then we share our results and hopefully have inspired you to join the challenge. (The links to my challenge results can be found at the end of this post.)

Last month was our fabric challenge and the picture to the left shows one of the small pillows I made to use on my Adirondack chairs.

This month our challenge item was a terra-cotta plant pot.  I decided to make candle holders as in my world you can never have too many candle holders. Do you agree??

August Craft 1This project was so quick and easy and the combination of colors could be endless. For this project I used a cream color craft paint. It only took two coats.  Once it was dry, I sanded the areas where I wanted a distressed look. I used E6000 glue to attach the saucer to the top. It just needs a candle and it’s ready to use.

July Craft Challenge

July Craft Challenge – incorporate fabric into a craft!

Last month was our embroidery hoop challenge and the picture to the left shows the laundry lint bag I made. I used some fabric from my stash in that challenge so technically it could count as my July craft too but I had something else in mind when I scored these adorable little bath mats at my local Dollar Tree for $1.25 each.

I thought they would make awesome little pillows to use on my Adirondack chairs on my back deck.  They were super easy and fast to make.  I had an old tablecloth that I couldn’t decide what to do with so it came in pretty handy for this project as I cut two pieces from it the same size as the bathmats to use as the backsides of my pillows.

March Craft Challenge

March Craft Challenge – make a craft that includes yarn.

yarn

Just in case you are new and this is the first you are hearing about this, here’s the scoop. On the Third Monday of every month, Amelia, (she blogs over at You Can Always Start Now) and I do a project or post based on one chosen DIY craft or theme, then we share our results and hopefully have inspired you to join our challenge.

In January the theme was canvas, February we used puzzle pieces. (The links to our challenge results can be found at the end of this post.)

Lately I’ve been trying a variety of ways to make different size yarn pom-poms. I’ve tried making them on a fork(pretty small), wrapping around my fingers(medium) and using the C cardboard method (these can be as big as you want).   I decided to incorporate my craft challenge with an Easter craft.

Amelia from You Can Always Start Now  was very creative and used only yarn for her craft. She made a headband and a necklace using only her fingers – yes finger knitting. Go check out her blog.
