Day 12 – 12 Days of Christmas 2023 – Trash to Treasure

Welcome to the grand finale of my 12 Days of Christmas 2023 Trash to Treasure series! Today, I’m wrapping up with a project that takes old hardcover books from the thrift store (bought at a steal for just 50 cents each) and transforms them into a festive centerpiece that will fill your home with holiday cheer. Join me as I breathe new life into these forgotten literary gems with paint, red vinyl cutouts spelling JOY, NOEL, JINGLE and a touch of bakers twine and fake greenery to tie it all together.

I chose three books that were the same size. I gave them two coats of white acrylic craft paint (from my stash). When the paint was dry I used my Cricut cutting machine and cut red vinyl into the festive words JOY, NOEL and Jingle. Using the transfer tape method, I carefully applied these vinyl cutouts to the spines of my painted books. The contrast of the bold red against the white book made a striking visual effect.

Once the vinyl was applied I glued  the books together to form a stack. Ensuring that the spines with the vinyl cutouts were prominently visible.

To finish off the book stack I used  bakers twine, tying it in a neat bow on the top. The twine adds a rustic and charming element to the overall design. To complete the festive look, I embellished the book stack with fake greenery.

Whether it’s on the mantle, as a centerpiece on the dining table, or as part of a holiday vignette, this creation is sure to spark joy and conversation.
